  • Stretch Mark Treatment: Treating Your Stretch Marks

    While there doesn't appear to be one definitive cure for stretch marks, there are options available touted as stretch mark cures. For example, stretch mark treatment options include laser, derma abrasion and various versions of stretch mark cream. In the quest to get rid of stretch marks a lot of attention has been focused on topical application of cream and oils like coconut. Some treatment options focus on prevention, such a dietary changes and the use of topical solutions during the course of pregnancy, or when starting a weight training regime.

    Stretch Mark Removal


    How to get rid of stretch marks? Several medical interventions have been used to treat stretch marks. For example lasers, cryosurgery and steroid injections have been commonly employed.

    Cryosurgery employs freezing to diminish some of the appearance of stretch marks and steroid injections plump up the scar tissue to make the stretch mark less conspicuous.

    Laser treatment has become more common in recent years. The surgeon attempts to soften the scar tissue using lasers. In the process it is hoped that scar tissue will blend into surrounding skin.

    Treatment with lasers often requires multiple sessions. Patients usually experience only minor side effects that can include; redness, swelling, bruising and increased, but temporary redness on the stretch marks.

    Receiving laser treatment early in the cycle of stretch mark development, when pinkish in color, increases the likelihood of good results.

    Some people report success using stretch mark cream as a treatment. These creams are often made with quantities of collagen and elastin. It is believed that by adding these substances back into the skin will help the body regenerate.

    Further it is suggested that stretch marks will dim with the use of these creams and that future ones will be prevented. Skin creams have been reported to show immediate results, by reducing the appearance of stretch marks, while others may take months before visible results are seen.

    Stretch mark removal creams and salves contain ingredients such as vitamin E, coconut butter or oil, aloe, and Emu oil. While effectiveness of theses stretch mark treatments may vary, it appears that many will improve the general texture and will add moisture that can help the healing process.


    Stretch Mark Prevention


    Vitamin E, coconut butter and other emollients have been used to prevent the occurrences of stretch marks. Using frequent applications of coconut butter has been used in cases of pregnancy. It appears that using this natural product frequently over the course of the pregnancy may help reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

    In addition, it may facilitate the healing process for stretch marks that do occur. Some consideration has been given to diet as having an influence on the development of stretch marks. For example, foods rich in Omega fatty acids might help the body resist tearing because there in an increase of natural emollients present in the body.

    In addition foods rich in Vitamin E and Vitamin A may reduce scarring and in addition help regeneration of skin tissue. While there is no magic stretch mark removal cure, there are many options that seem to make a difference in appearance and occurrence of stretch marks.

    Good skin care that incorporates a healthy diet that rich in omega fatty acids, vitamins A and E, and using a good skin cream or coconut butter may be the best place to start.
